Check out what they had to say about planning your wedding flowers!

When should couples book in their wedding florist?

As soon as possible. It’s a good idea to book early, as you want to get to know your florist, to ensure their style is exactly what you’re looking for. Not only that, florists can be very busy and you want to make sure you don’t miss out on the date you want to book in.

What are some things they should consider when choosing a florist?

Look at their past weddings and events – make sure their style is what you’re looking for. Build a good relationship with your florist. You want someone who will communicate and is always happy to talk about your concerns and discuss your requests.

What impact does the venue have on wedding flowers?

Some venues prefer to use their own florists. This can mean you may not be able to choose exactly what you want. Some venues don’t allow florals installed on certain parts of their building/structure. Sometimes the florists only have as much as a couple of hours to set up – this is why it’s a good idea to plan early and communicate with your vendors.

Does the season effect what flowers are available?

The simple answer is yes. Being a product of nature, flower availability can be affected by many environmental factors that are out of our control. These days with controlled growing environments and imported blooms, there is still a huge range of flowers to choose from, but this is definitely still something to consider when planning your wedding.

What is the most popular flower/colour combo?

In our experience, they’ve all been unique. Having said that, some popular colour choices are burgundy and deep reds mixed with cream and foliage, through to pastel tones and softer palettes. Roses are a popular flower choice for weddings. An exciting part about the floristry industry is that trends are forever changing and the options are almost endless.

Is it better to be very specific with your florist or let them shine and do their thing?

It’s great to know what you like and what you don’t like, while being open to suggestions. It’s always a good idea to request colours you like as well as flowers – that way, we can still make suggestions that fit your colour palette if the flowers you want aren’t available.

What kind of wedding flower vibes are you loving right now?

I’m loving the modern boho floral style at the moment. Mixes dried and fresh florals is always a great combo. Tall, natural pampas grass stems, grouped with pale pinks and pops of white. Reflexed roses and cascading Phalaenopsis orchids. I also love a more edgy, asymmetrical look, as opposed to the more traditional florals.

What is one thing couples often forget/don’t realise about wedding flowers?

People usually expect flowers to be inexpensive. Often brides and grooms are surprised at the cost of their wedding florals. Arrangements and installations are a lot more than what you see on the day. Florists put in a lot of work behind the scenes to make sure you’re really happy with the end result. A lot of time goes into quoting, designing, sourcing and preparing every stem.

Any advice to couples trying to choose their wedding flower situation?

Don’t rush in and pick the first florist you find, and don’t always go for the cheapest. Find a few you like the look of and do your research. Finding a florist who you feel comfortable working with and understands you and your requests will make the whole experience run smoothly and more enjoyable from start to finish.

Have fun planning your wedding. It’s meant to be an exciting experience, so don’t let it stress you out too much.
